Trade union leaders hail successful end of UNI strike

This report on the successful end of the UNI employees' strike of 1973 demanding reinstatement of B.R.P. Bhaskar and the reactions of  political and trade union leaders to the development appeared in the Times of India, Bombay.

My personal recollections of the event are recorded in the Facebook Note titled  "Old photographs bring the light of other days around me". There is a discrepancy with regard to the duration of the strike in the two documents. The UNI Employees Union, Delhi, initially called for a 24-hour strike. As the UNI management did not relent, the Union announced a 48-hour extension of the strike. The management's recalcitrance forced the Union to announce a 72-hour extension thereafter. At this stage, the Management contacted B.R.Vats, Secretary General of the Indian Federation of Working Journalists, seeking help to settle the dispute. Negotiations began on the fifth day and ended on the sixth.
